About us

We are a group of volunteers set up to help residents in a time of crisis with the support of local organisations and businesses. In the short time available local people have risen to the challenge and we now have a very successful community volunteering group.

Special thanks to  Mandy Hessing (a member of the Parish Council and EALC Executive member) and Liz Hiscock (a co-opted member of the council's Health & Wellbeing Committee) for coming up with the idea and putting it into action.

The group have already achieved the following (Easter 2020):

  • 429+ volunteers in a Facebook group offering support; 154+ volunteers on rotas or in reserve

  • Leaflets printed and distributed to ~2300 homes in Danbury with overlap in Little Baddow and Bicknacre

  • A Hub Office with safe working practices and two telephone help lines up and running

  • A card payment & mobile card reader, donated by a local business, to reduce or eliminate the use of cash

  • Superb support from Dr. Caroline Dollery, one of our GP’s at Danbury Medical Centre

  • Worked closely with Danbury Misson to set up a local Foodbank, appealed for food donations with the help of Tesco Express & the Co-op

  • Set up a small team of administrators to:

    • recruit volunteers, identifying skill sets

    • collate and organise rotas for helplines and community volunteers (delivering prescriptions and shopping to residents)

    • manage the Hub

    • ensure insurance, job descriptions and policies all in place

  • Set up a number of community projects including a Befriending Service, Sewing Bees, Mental Health Training (including suicide awareness), Contact Magazine articles & advertising,

We have received a number of donations from local businesses, village organisations and residents which we are most grateful. We are working with the volunteers and hope to utilise as many as they can to provide this excellent service to our community.
